Weave Your Walk - loom weaving with Anne Kable

Create a small woven art work that tells a story, using the colours, shapes and textures of our natural environment.

We will start with a gentle walk, on Wiradjuri Country, connecting with nature and gathering inspiration and materials.

After returning to the studio, we will use the materials we have gathered, as we learn the basics of loom weaving to create a visual memory of our walk. A simple loom made from cardboard and baker’s twine, is all it takes to make a small wall hanging. Once learnt, these simple techniques can be used to weave other materials and make a variety of items.

Our walk will either be at the Dunedoo Woodland Learning Centre or the Talbragar Riverside Trail, in Dunedoo. Location details will be confirmed the day before the workshop, with the choice determined by weather and conditions. Both walks are short and gentle, requiring only moderate fitness and mobility.

We will provide . . .

all the materials you need to make and use a small cardboard loom

step by step guidance on basic weaving techniques

a handout explaining weaving tools and terminology

tea and coffee

You will need . . .

comfortable walking shoes and suitable clothing for bush walking

a hat and sunscreen if the weather is warm

a water bottle

a large and light carry bag to gather and carry your materials in

lunch for yourself, or bring something to share

Thanks for the inspiration, from artist Blake Griffiths, for this workshop.
